JobTest.org Career Test Review: Pros, Drawbacks, and Comparison

As a late-twenty-year-old who has worked as a financial analyst since college, I recently found myself at a crossroads. I had a stable job with good benefits, compensation, and work culture, but I didn't feel as fulfilled as I once was. I felt like I was going through the motions and eventually realized I wanted a job that would fulfill me more.

That's when I started reading about the best career tests and discovered JobTest.org. I was initially skeptical, considering I've never paid to take a career test, but I bit the bullet and tried it. In my review, I'll walk you through my journey with JobTest.org and help you decide if it's worth the price. Whether you're in a similar spot to where I was or just starting your career, my personal experience will show you what to expect and if JobTest.org can assist your career search.

Key Takeaways

What I Liked:

  • Quick and easy testing process
  • Asks for little personal information
  • Comes with actionable results
  • Helps adults and career changers

What Could Be Improved:

  • Resource variety
  • Add a free report option

The Bottom Line:

Career tests may seem like a waste and only for students, but I had an excellent experience with JobTest.org's career test. I learned new things about myself and what I can do to put my skills into a satisfying career, giving me a new wave of inspiration I wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

How JobTest.org Works

JobTest.org is like any other assessment you may have taken, but it's designed to help you find the right career. After I answered about twenty minutes' worth of questions, JobTest.org analyzed my responses and gave me a report within seconds.

The career test for adults has multiple-choice questions, sliding scale responses, and a few visual and typed answers (mainly about personal information or additional context for previous answers). I ended up finishing the test in about fifteen minutes, mainly because I didn't have to second-guess myself and came up with quick responses.

My Personal Experience with JobTest.org

Overall, I was satisfied with JobTest.org and my comprehensive report. The test was seamless, and I had no issues viewing my results.

Registration and Test Procedure

I was surprised I didn't have to register at the beginning of the test. I started answering questions immediately, and even after I finished, JobTest.org never asked me to provide extensive personal information beyond my first name, email address, and credit card information to pay for the results.

Throughout the test, I received small updates with interesting facts and tips, like how over two-thirds of Americans don't use what they learned from their major in their careers. Reading these mid-test updates made me feel better about deviating from my original career plan if it would make me happier.

As I answered questions, I found myself reflecting on my career preferences and skills. Some questions made me pause and think, offering me a chance to consider aspects of my career I had previously overlooked. By the end of the test, I felt open to new possibilities and wanted to see what else I could do.

User Interface

I liked the website's design and how easy it was to take the test. In addition to the mid-test updates, I appreciated the question variety, which felt more comprehensive and engaging than tests with only one type.

user interface

Even if you struggle with technology, JobTest.org is easy enough to use, with clear directions, a straightforward testing process, and interpretable results. And if you have any issues, JobTest.org's customer service team says they will respond within three days, but I have yet to try this.

Report Delivery

After I finished taking the test and paying $34.90 for the comprehensive report, it took JobTest.org less than a minute to compile my results. I can access the results on JobTest.org directly, but I can't export them as a PDF or email them to myself. Instead, JobTest.org sends me a sign-in link when I want to access it, which has worked every time I've tried to use it. I still wish I could create an account, but this is a minor complaint.

What I Learned from the Results

I spent time reviewing each part of my report, taking notes, and thinking about what it was trying to tell me. Here's what I found in my results:

Career Matches

My JobTest.org report came with five career matches, all finance and insurance-related industries. I wasn't surprised because of my past work experience and education, but part of me wishes it introduced new fields I could pursue. I also answered that I wanted to avoid returning to school on the test, which could have played a role in its recommendations.

Still, I felt like the report was accurate and gave me realistic avenues to consider, especially becoming a personal finance planner or advisor. I also liked how it gave me the salary range, satisfaction statistics, and a brief description and requirements for each job.

Overall, I was satisfied with my career results. They gave me some ideas to consider and how I could change career direction, so I plan on starting a new job hunt. Although I'm still determining which direction I want to pursue, I feel inspired to make a change and move on from my current role.

Personality Analysis

The personality tab of the report covered my “CAPBOI” score, personality analysis, strengths, and weaknesses. CAPBOI stands for six personality types: communal, analytical, pragmatic, bold, orthodox, and imaginative. I was classified as predominantly “imaginative” (creative, independent, and original), which I found mostly accurate. I also liked how the report recommended I pick up a creative hobby like photography to express this side of myself.

I appreciated the feedback from the weaknesses section and seeing my skills mapped on the chart. I could see clear ways to improve my abilities, especially my client-facing and customer-service skills, in order to become an advisor. If anything, I wish this part of the report was longer and provided more things to consider.

Additional Resources

JobTest.org gave me a few career assistance tools, which are provided by their partners. These include a scholarship search platform, resume builder, grant funding opportunities, and more. I don't plan to return to school, so I probably won't use any of the educational resources. The resume builder seems cool and will come in handy if I end up switching jobs, but I wouldn't say the resources are what made the report worth it to me.

How Does JobTest.org Compare to Other Career Tests?

Having tried a few other career tests in the past, JobTest.org stands out among them. Other tests, like MyPlan and 123test, are based on proven scientific and psychological models, like the Holland Codes. While these have strengths in their own ways, some of them focus on a set of key personality traits, which doesn't always capture the entirety of someone's unique characteristics and preferences.

JobTest.org uses a proprietary algorithm based on the latest career and salary data, which gives more detailed and personalized insights. The results were more intuitive and usable for my career search, considering it took into account my job satisfaction requirements, work-from-home preferences, and hesitation to return to school.

Although I don't quite understand how the technology behind JobTest.org works, it produced accurate results and gave me what I was looking for.

The Verdict: Do I Recommend JobTest.org?

My experience with JobTest.org was enlightening. It offered the clarity I needed to navigate my career doubts, from what careers make a good fit to what I need to work on to expedite my progress. While I wish I could create an account for easier access, the main product was worth it, in my opinion.

If you feel stuck like I was or need a burst of inspiration, I highly recommend you try this career test and see what you learn. But if you're still on the fence, I suggest reading more JobTest.org reviews to see how other people's experiences unfolded.
